Meet our Founder

Carmen Carrero  founded Metanoia Family Academy in September 2021.  Carmen is a disciple of the Lord Jesus, and believes the Bible is God's Word.  She is the blessed mom of two daughters, a young adult, and a teenager.  Carmen has made the education of children and youth her life-long  commitment.  Working as a Sunday School teacher from the age of 16, she proceeded to earn her Bachelor of Education at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, in Lima, Peru, and from there, her Master of Education at York University, in Toronto, Canada.  

In between obtaining these degrees, she squeezed in one year living at Oxford University, Oxford, UK: auditing classes, preparing a research project proposal with Prof. Colin Brock, and completing a research methods course.  Carmen pursued PhD studies in education at York University, completing all coursework and the research portion of her dissertation.  She has worked as Project Administrator and Research Coordinator at OISE/UofT, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), and York University, managing a team of up to 26 people. She has co-authored research reports in the field of Early Childhood Education. 

Carmen developed curricula for Compassion International, Peru, for children and youth 5-18 years old.  She has taught in public and private schools.  She has served as Christian youth leader for teens and university students both independently and within Christian organizations.  She was course director for the Faculty of Education at York University, as well as contract faculty in the School of Early Childhood Education at TMU.  She  WHOLEHEARTEDLY  rejoices  in homeschooling her younger daughter.   A zealous proponent of parents' rights to homeschool -including the right and privilege to pass on the Christian faith to their children, Carmen founded Metanoia Family Academy expressly to help build a community of families who are enabled and encouraged to extend God's Kingdom here on Earth.
